What is the purpose of

this GHG Tool?

Different regulatory regimes tax (or will start taxing) GHG emissions (ETS), and each regulation does this differently. Estimating the GHG footprint of various shipment alternatives is becoming increasingly complex!

The Dutch government made its Biograce tooling available, which could be used with some tweaks and adjustments. However, this will be phased out by December 31, 2025.

Green Gold Label presents this GHG Tool to meet global market demands for a for a simple, universal solution.

What are your benefits?

Free of charge, for everyone

Anybody who registers a valid email address will receive a download link for the latest version of the tool. You do not need to be a certified GGL Participant or Certification Body to obtain the GHG Tool. This GHG Tool has not been certified and does not serve as a replacement for certification. GGL aims to promote transparency of GHG emissions resulting from the use of sustainable biomass worldwide.

Easy to use and simple

The tool is Excel-based and operates on Windows and iOS systems. GGL has prepopulated it with the most common GHG Default values for various regulations. The tool includes a user manual that explains its basic functions and requires macros to be enabled. 

Focusing on the Japanese FIT/FIP and European RED markets

Calculations of total GHG emissions can be based on either Default values for FIT/FIP or RED, or actual emission data. This enables anyone to compare the GHG impact of different supply chain scenarios and across various regulatory environments.

Expandable to new markets

Any user of the tool can provide feedback to the GHG Support Team, suggesting improvements and / or future expansions. GGL may also choose to expand the tool to cover more regulations, beyond FIT/FIP in Japan and RED in Europe.

How the GHG-tool works

The GHG Tool is built in Excel and uses macros to perform the calculations. This makes it easy to use for anyone familiar with spreadsheets, without the need for additional software or technical skills.

Password-protected for integrity

To ensure that the tool cannot be altered or tampered with, it is password-protected. Only the Green Gold Label Foundation and its trusted partners can update or maintain the tool.

Available for download

The tool can be freely downloaded after leaving your email address and accepting the terms and conditions. This allows GGL to share updates with users and ensure that everyone works with the latest version.

Built-in user manuals

The Excel file contains clear instructions and user manuals in English. These guides explain step by step how to input data and interpret the results.

Cross-platform compatibility

The GHG Tool can be used on both Windows and macOS operating systems, making it accessible to a wide range of users.
